How to write answers in Exams to score higher?

Exams are near and I hope your preparation is going on well. In addition to your exam preparation, you must have some idea about how to write the answers in the answer sheet cause, No matter how well you have studied or you know the answer very well, you will get the marks only when you have written and represented well in the answer sheet.

So, today I am going to tell you some game-changing ideas So that you can write a perfect answer in the exam. Follow these tips before, after finishing the writing and during the exam. So, let's start:

Before exam

• If you are provided the answer sheet sometimes before the question paper. Make sure to fill all the entries before getting the question paper.
• After getting the question paper read all carefully and take at least two-three minutes to analyze the paper.
• Decide which section you will attempt first and which at the last. Ideally, you should attempt that section which is lengthier but easy for you! cause you will get less time and frustrated at the last and not be able to write lengthy questions.
• If you have to choose between a theory question and a numerical question and you know both the answers, always go for the numerical, cause you will get full marks if the answer is correct. However, getting full marks in theory question is a little difficult.

Making strategy before attempting question can help you to attempt the maximum number of questions.

During writing answers in the exam hall

• Marginal space: Now, it is important because when the evaluator(answer sheet checker) will fold your sheet to read the next page, then it would not be properly visible.

Also, It will make your answer sheet look good. You can leave a margin on the left and right both sides of your copy.  

• First two lines: The first two to three lines of any answer is very important because it reflects the understanding of the student of those particular questions. 

It becomes more important when you have to write answers to the word limit. If you have to write the answer in (say) 30 words, then you must draw the attention of your evaluator that you are a smart student and you know the answer very well in those 30 words.

Many teachers say that most of the time, they do not read the full answer of a question, just they read first three to four lines, in the middle and at the last if you have written in the long paragraph. 

SO, If you are not able to empress your evaluator in the initial, you are not going to get full marks.

• Avoid active voice in your answers: Writing answers using active voice in your sentences is not a good idea. To make a good impression, you must write your answers using a mostly passive voice as possible.

Inappropriate- When I add acid to the base, salt is formed.

Appropriate- When acid is mixed with a base, then salt is formed.

• The proper way of cutting: We all want to avoid cutting and overwriting in the exam but I know that we do make mistakes. And the worst part is, we highlight our mistakes in the exam by cutting it multiple times and start making design right?

The current way of cutting the wrong word is to cut with a single line. 
If you have to cut one paragraph or a page then try to cut by a single line (diagonally). It will help your copy to look less messy.

• Factual data and examples: Few answers contains some special data like dates, numbers, or some special examples. These are the things which make your answer perfect and unique.

This is true that it is difficult to remember those data and figures but you should remember at least a few of them according to your convenience and underline them in your answer.

• Pointwise description: Teachers always used to tell us to write in point, sometimes students do not understand which question needs a pointwise description?

well, It depends on your creativity. But there are some questions which need pointwise descriptions like:

1. Advantages and disadvantages
2. Classifications and types(points and sub-points)
3. The steps of a procedure
4. Examples etc

For better understanding, you should analyze your answer sheet after being checked and see if you are getting low marks due to bad representation and ask your teacher the correct way of representing that particular question.

•  Avoid mistakes in at least first four pages: Well, ideally you should try to avoid mistakes throughout the answer sheet but somehow it is not possible because we have to write much in limited time as well.

Why this is important? 

Since the mood of the teacher also affects the marks( as sometimes we get lesser marks than our friends for the same answer), it is necessary to impress the teacher as much as we can.

If you are able to avoid mistakes in first few pages, then it will leave a good impact on the teacher that the students write good answers and he will continue the flow of giving the maximum marks even in some little bad answers.

• Structure of the answer: Now, this is important because, in some of the questions, more than one thing is asked, like- define "xyz" as well as write it's advantages, disadvantages, and applications as well.

So, in this kind of question, you should first think the way you are going to organize the answer. for ex-First, you should define "xyz" then describe that properly, followed by examples and data+figures, and then you should go for the advantages, disadvantages, and application.

• Proper Headings and subheadings: The headings and subheadings are as much important as your paragraph and in some cases, it is even more.

If you will not specify proper headings and subheadings, you evaluator will not be able to read all your paragraphs and end up giving you average marks, in another hand if you have written headings and subheading, then the teacher will recognize your answer easily and give you good marks cause in some cases they go through the headings and subheadings only.

You should use at least two colour pencil to clearly differentiate the headings and the paragraphs.

• Avoid contractions: We all are habitual of texting and chatting on social media using the shortcut for many words. Since we are in a hurry during writing answers, we also write shortcut for those words in the answer, which creates a bad impact on the evaluator.

Rather you should avoid using contraction even while chatting cause I don't think we are so busy that can't use some seconds right?

• Diagrams and flowcharts tips: There are some questions like- Classifications, steps, procedures etc, in these kinds of answers, you can make a quick diagram even if not mentioned in the question. It will make your sheet unique.

Even you are writing an answer and you know the diagram as well, you should make it if you have time regardless of mentioning in the question. Follow these tips for more beautiful results:

1. Make diagrams with a pencil only
2. If the diagram is small, make it the right side of your copy
3. Do not forget to label your diagram
4. If you have confusion about labeling, leave that instead of wrong leveling because it will be the first thing the teacher will see.

Almost 10 minutes before answer sheet submission

Most of the time we finish writing before 10 to 15 minutes. So, instead of resting and looking at others face, you can make your answer more accurate and beautiful. I try to do these things when you finish all your answers.

• Underlining the important sentences: While checking the answer sheet, the examiner first tries to find whether you have written the correct and important things or not.

If you have written the correct answer and mentioned the important points as well, you should underline the important words, statements, and data(if any). It will be easier to check the copy for the examiner.

But keep in mind- Underling with pencil, do not make your copy messy.

• Reviewing the answers: Sometimes we are thinking about X and end up writing Y in the answer, and it happens to all of us due to human error.

To minimize these errors you should review your answer at least once at the last.

• Numbering on the top right of the page: Sometimes due to improper handling or some bad luck, some pages may tear up and disappear, if you have time and you are expecting this with you then you can try this tip otherwise it is very rare.
