Hello, friends, Public speaking is something which we all have to do in life. Public speaking is not just speaking in class or speaking in a seminar, However, speaking in weddings, Birthday, or some other parties also come under public speaking.
Normally when people speak first time in Public then they feel some nervous like:
- Shaking legs
- Unstable voice
- Sweating palm
- Dry mouth
- Red face
- Racing heart beat
- Twisted stomach and much more

And the best part is, It can be fixed!
Fear of Public speaking is that kind of fear that people would rather walk 10 km on foot. There is a reason behind that. You will have to understand the correct reason that why do we all have this fear?

Cause of fear of the Public Speaking
First of all, this is natural, We all feel this. Someone experience it low and someone very high, but You will find no one who will say that he has never been experiencing the fear of public speaking.
Biologically, when our mind feels some danger around us to happen, then it sends a signal to our pituitary gland to release the hormone named " adrenaline" Due to the secretion of this hormone we feel the fear of this public speaking and express accordingly.
How to deal with the Fear of Public Speaking
So, today we will be discussing some of the methods used for overcoming this fear. Many of the great public speakers use this tips before speaking in public I am going to share with you.
- Understand the real problem: We fear in public speaking and we try to overcome the fear without knowing the actual reason. It is like removing the water from our boat instead of filling the whole, the water is coming in the boat from!
In the case of public speaking, the real problem is the feeling of Being unsafe. Unsafe in the sense that feeling of getting a rejection, what people will think about me, whether it will go right or not, am I looking stupid or something.
So, first of all, we have to make ourselves believe that we will not be put in jail if something does not go good, right?
We will rather not punished if we are not able to perform well. However, you can do something do make yourself comfortable like:
If you meet your audience and say hello to them, then you will get to know your audience that they are really not monsters, right? They will not run after you if you performed badly.
If you are able to convince yourself for the above things and maintain a positive attitude, then you will be able to focus more on the content delivery and make your speech/presentation better than everyone else.
- Memorize First few lines of your speech: Everyone knows the importance of the initiation. So, it is very important that you start your speech in the way you have prepared for.
If you will be able to start the speech, then it will be easier to take the further speech smoother.
- Do not Make efforts to overcome fear: For the purpose of fighting with our fear we focus unconsciously on our fear. By doing efforts against our fear, we increase the presence of the fear and the effects of that fear dominate our efforts.
Rather, we should only focus on the audience and the contents we are delivering. Focusing on the contents is the easy way to distract our mind from the fear.
- Make engaging contents: Using engaging contents in your speech/ presentation draws the attention of your audience staring at you to the contents you are delivering to them. For this you should take care these things for your content:
- Use charts and the numbers
- Use the experimental data
- Use short video clips
- Valuable content to the audience
If your content should be engaging then, the people will focus more on the contents than your expression and body language.
- Figure out your weak points and work on that: Some people I know do not fear from the public speaking but they fear from the struggle they have to do every time to speak English.Like that most of the people have the various problem like the problem of the communication skill or body language or something else. And due to this, the whole of the intention is concentrated on that weakness only while public speaking.
So, you can take feedback from your friend or family member and then work on that. So, that you could focus on your contents and audience more.
- Practice before your friends and family: It is easier to speak in front of the people we feel we are safe with. The more you will practice, the more you will be confident at your performance of public speaking.
So, whenever you get time to speak in front of the people, then take it as an opportunity and speak like you are speaking in public. It will make you habitual of doing this and unconsciously you will have experience of public speaking which will help you to speak confidently in public.
- Deep breathing: You might have noticed that, when we are in stress, the breathing pattern changes abnormally. Either we have to struggle to breathe, or we breath fast. In my case, I had to face problems to breathe.
Due to the change in the breathing pattern, the balance of the gases in our stomach gets disturbed. In result of which we feel many problems.
So, in the situation of stress(public speaking), deep breathing can really help you to balance your stomach problems.
