Things you should consider | Mistakes | Correct way of making a perfect Timetable to study for the exam.

We all make timetable at the start of the semester, before the exam and every time when we are motivated to study But, only a few of us are capable of following even 50% of that and become frustrated.

This is because, Every time when we make any timetable, we make same mistakes again and again. Also, the way of making the timetable is wrong in most of the cases.

Hello guys, welcome to "Being X smart blog" Today we are going to discuss that what are the things you should take care while making the timetable, the common mistakes, and the correct way of making an actual timetable. Things you should consider while making a timetable to study for the exam:

  • List out all the subjects you want to study:
All the subjects are important to study if you want to score high. Whenever we sit for study, we spend 20 minutes in deciding what to study and then usually we begin to study only our favorite subjects, which is a wrong way.

So, Make a list of the subjects, chapters, and topics you want to study so that it could also be included in your timetable.
  • Decide the goals you want to achieve:
The level of goals decides the level of action which we will take to achieve that goal.

To study hard, your goal must be in front of our eyes. Write the goals on a paper and paste it somewhere in your study room.
  • Set the priority of the subjects and chapters:
Deciding which subject is important from exam point of view and which one is easy/hard for you so that you can distribute time accordingly to all subjects.
Also, for a specific subject, there are some chapters which have highest chance to come questions from.

Prioritise the subject and chapters of those subject so that you should finish those first in order to score well in the exam.
  • Analysis of the time left in the exam/setting daily/weekly and monthly goals:
Maybe you are making the timetable at the starting of your semester of one week before the exam. So, depending on the time left, allow the time for each the subjects and chapters.
Make the monthly- Weekly- and Daily goals of the chapters/topics you need to finish in order to reach your final goal.

For example- If I have two weeks in my exam and I have to revise 5 subjects having 10 chapters each, then I have to finish at least 4 chapters (not necessarily of a single subject) daily before sleeping.

This how you can make your daily goals of 4 chapters and weekly goals of 25 chapters. It will help you to keep a track on your progress.
Taking brakes are important while study cause, reading one chapter and forgetting half makes no sense right? Pomodoro is a technique of working for long without losing the efficiency.

Pomodoro techniques tell you to work/study in the session of 25-5 or 50-10( 25 minutes study and 5 minutes brakes, or 50 minutes of study and 10 minutes of brakes).
  • Distribution of time for specific subjects:
Some of us like to study in the morning, some in the night and some in the evening. If you allot your favorite time of study to study boring subject, you will easily be able to study that. In my case, I use to study boring/Theory subjects in the morning.

On the other hand, if you study your favorite subject in the boring time then, you will have less problem in studying boring subjects as well.
  • Leave some time for your non-academic activities:
Some of us make timetable such that they leave no time to play or spend with the friends and family.

Non-academic activities are the mental fuel which recharges us to continue the hard work. Which is important if you want to follow your timetable for a long time.

So, leave 2 hours for doing whatever you like in the day like swimming, singing, skating etc.
  • The reward at the completion of the timetable:
We all love rewards. And it drives us positively to work and finishes the goals.

You can reward yourself like:
  1. Eating favorite food
  2. Playing your favorite game for 30 minutes
  3. Watch your favorite show for 1 hours etc.

Mistakes most students do while making timetable:

I have seen most of my friends making their timetable like-

Wake up at 6 o clock
get fresh till 6:30 am
Study physics from 6:30 to 8:30 am

Take breakfast till 9 am
Take brake of one hour
Study mathematics from 10:00 to 12:00
And so on..

The way of making timetable is wrong because, suppose for some reason if we slept at night late and woke up in the morning at 6:30, then we will spend the whole day in guilt and frustration and not be able to follow the remaining timetable.

How to make an actual timetable to study?

You should never make a timetable for every hour like shown in the above example. Rather, you can make your timetable in different slots.

Depending on the time you want to study and daily goals, you can set the number of slots.

For example- If you have to finish four chapters a day (not necessarily of the single subject), you can make three slots of three hours.
  1. Finish two chapters of "x" subject before 9 o clock.
  2. Finish one chapter of "Y" subject before 3 pm.
  3. Finish One chapter of "Z" subject before 8 pm.
  4. Revise all that studied in the whole day before 11 pm.
This way you can easily follow the whole timetable, no matter you woke up 1 hour late or you have to do some urgent work.
