How to study more than 10 hours a day? Tips for study longer hours without getting tired and bored.

You will find tons of videos and articles saying that studying for 10 hours, or 15 hours is not important, what important is, how much you learn, revise or finish in a day? Now you must be thinking, that your question should be how many chapters you should finish per day right?

Now again no one can decide that how many chapters you should finish per day because it totally depends upon your capability, the time remaining in your exam.

So, what exactly should be your question?
In this highly competitive era, especially in the country like India, you can not qualify any competitive exam whether it is SSC group D jobs or the UPSC exam without studying more than 99% of the applicants.

And for that, you must have to give your 100% of the capacity that means you should study as much as you can. if you think you can study for 10 hours. Go ahead. More hours, more content covered, more chance of selection.

So, The appropriate question should be "How can one study 10+ hours without getting tired or losing interest right?

So, Now we will discuss how can you study for 10+ hours a day to achieve your targeted position:

Study

  • Sleep is important:
A study show Sleep has a direct connection with the memory.
So, studying long hours and forgetting half of the things is totally pointless. 
Also, the study also shows that the person who sleeps less than 8 hours is more likely to suffer from the depression and mental problems. 

  • Wake up early in the morning:
My personal experience is, whenever I wake up late, My whole day gets ruined up guys. I spend all day feeling lazy and unproductive. And the worst part is, you will waste your time sleeping unnecessarily.

On the other side, The day when I wake up early before 6:30 am usually, and go for a walk, that time I actually feel so energetic and fresh.
This is the time when you get extra time for whatever you want to do including study. And the best part is, there will be almost no one to disturb you.

  • Plan your whole day:
Well, this is a part of the time management but excluding the study. Cause, there are also certain things we have to do especially when we are away from home in a (hostel or PG) like washing clothes, go shopping, Completing some paperwork from the college etc.

Planning your day can save your time a lot which can be used in the study right?
  • Apply 5 minutes rule:
This is my favorite. We all have to do tons of things in daily life which takes less than 5-10 minutes but they are urgent like, getting some signature, purchasing some stationary products, arranging some study material from our friend etc.

We keep on procrastinating these things and we end up with many tasks pending like this which makes us frustrated.

The better way is- Complete all the task at the same time when you remember it or after finishing the current task you are doing at that time.

For this, you can use notepad in your mobile phone and for the tasks which will take more than 10 minutes, set the certain time for that while planning your day in the morning.
  • Select your study material wisely:
Books
Yes, Selecting study material which is inappropriate for you can make you feel bored soon. So, do some research, ask your teachers or seniors that what books would be best for you? My suggestion is, Go for basics first from your notebook and then start standard books.

I prefer to the notes I make myself and the reference book for the difficult topics only. I also solve previous years papers and mock papers. 

What should you study for the exam?

  • Make a study schedule to follow/ Time management:
I know that following the study schedule is difficult and this is one of the biggest reason for frustration. However, this is also true that you can not study for 10+ hours randomly.

A good study schedule removes confusions and ambiguity of what to study. Most importantly, a good study schedule saves a lot of time in deciding what/when to study, which is important if you are planning 10+ hours to study. Just be disciplined.
  • Conduct tests on each weekend:
One of the reasons for not studying for more hours, it because we have still more time in the exam. Some people are so habitual to study at the exam night, that even if they have two days, they take it easy! And end up with 40 or 50 marks sometimes even less.

Conducting exam on your own will create a virtual pressure on yourself that you have to perform well and help you psychologically.

  • Be prepared for the frustration:
The human brain is designed to be in the comfort zone and avoid taking risks. So, It may take time, and tears as well for some of you.

Keep in mind that studying more than 10 hours for first three to four days will be next to impossible for some of you. But if you manage to do it only for a weak, it will be a piece of cake for you.

  • Leave other commitments if possible:
Maybe you are working on changing some other habits or something like losing weight, start gym etc which also needs motivation, then you must leave it if you can,

Cause studying for more than 10 hours continuously for weeks and months will really require a lot of willpower to be concentrated only upon this.
  • Allot some certain times for social media/friends:
Social media
We can never leave something in our life including our friends and social life right? When we start chatting with our friends, unconsciously I take hours of time and again we feel frustrated.

  • Keep yourself motivated and inspired:
For studying more than 10 hours per day continuously, you will need a strong driving force which keeps you inspired whole day.
  1. Watch interviews of with successful people of our field

  3. Write your dreams on a paper and paste in your room and bathroom as well.
  • Challenge your friend positively:
We love respect, right? and ready to push our limit to maintain it. Use this psychology and challenge your friend to finish the chapter in certain time.

Also, arrange quizzes and other challenges with your friend to force yourself internally to study more hours.
  • The "reward" at the end of the day:
We all love reward, right? Set a rule to reward your self with little things like favorite food, games, chatting with friend etc only after finishing the daily goals.

It will give you an interesting reason to finish the daily goals.
  • Make weakly and monthly goals:
It is important to get the outcome from our hard work in order to stay motivated to work continuously. Making weakly and monthly goals will help you to track your progress and tell you, what portion of your syllabus has been finished.
  • Keep Changing the study environment:
Study only on the table and chair is ok if you only have to study for 2-3 hours. However, if you want to study more, you should try studying walking, on the table, on the bed, on the Terence, in the park etc.

Changing the study environment and position is really very important to maintain the interest in the study for a longer time.
  • Change your study style when bored:
The study by only reading notebook and textbooks is old fashion and boring as well. To make study interesting and fun, you should study in these manners as well:
  1. Record your voice reading notebook/books and play on your phone.
  2. Youtube lecture of your subjects
  3. The study from your best friend/group study (if you have enough time).
  4. Watch simulations and the experiments related to your subject.
  5. Teach one of your friends.
  • Use Pomodoro technique for brakes:
Pomodoro is a Japanese technique to work longer efficiently. It tells the proper interval of working/studying and taking brakes based on the best result taken from the experiments. 
  • Health is necessary: 
Yoga
This is the most important thing to study more than 10 hours a day cause, all the laziness, frustration, and unusual mind condition is indirectly or directly connected to the health and food.


I am not going to tell you more about health, just you need to take care of following things daily.
  1. Take bath daily- It helps to overcome laziness
  2. Take all your meals completely and eat well-balanced food.
  3. Must consume some juice, egg or other additional things which competes for the necessary requirements of the body.
  4. Exercise twice a day even for 30 minutes in the morning and evening each. It makes you energetic and removes laziness. You can do yoga as well for a better start.
  • Keep your study environment clean:
Study place
The environment around us affects our thinking and performance as well. So, at least, the place you study or sleep, should be neat and clean. A good room freshener may work better here.
