Now, it seems a little bit easy when something interesting is being taught in class however it becomes a little bit difficult while the lecture/class is boring and we feel sleepy during class. which are very common. So, today we will be discussing some practical tips for staying awake, concentrated and attentive in the classroom to grasp most of the knowledge being delivered in class.
Also, read Smart way of answer sheet representation to maximize your marks.
So, let's get started:
Tip #1: Wake up at least one hour before the class:
I know some of you can just wake up 15 minutes before the class, however, this habit is going to ruin your whole day as you are going to feel lazy and sleepy.
Try to wake up before at least an hour, it will give you sufficient time to wake up and become fresh fully so that you could focus and concentrate in the classroom.
Tip #2: Interact with the teachers:
This is my personal favorite tips to stay awake as well as making the class interesting. Also, it will help you to become a good student from a teachers perspective.
Also, participating in the class discussion is going to help you remember those things for a very long time.
Tip#3: Sit in front of the teacher:
Most of the topper uses this trick to stay awake even in a boring lecture. If you sit in the front, you will be psychologically attentive to avoid being caught sleeping.
However, you should avoid this technique if you have not taken enough sleep last night.
Tip#4: Drink cold water:
Drinking cold water keeps you hydrated and makes you fresh, Which will help you to stay awake during your class or work.
Tip #5: Stretching, Pressing and moving:
Get into an uncomfortable position or start little stretching. It should not be like yoga or exercise, of course, you just start with pressing your fingers, nose, ears, etc. It will give you a little bit of pain and keep you awake.
Tip #6. Using your imagination to see/ feel that thing:
As I said earlier, if something interesting is going on, it is easy to concentrate, however, if something boring is being taught in class, you can use your imagination to make it interesting by thinking like:
- How questions are going to come from this topic.
- How can it be helpful?
- Think about how will you make notes of it.
- Try to feel by becoming the character of that particular topic.
Tip #7. Try eating some light snacks/Chew gums if possible:
Eating something light during the class or work can really increase your focus and eliminate sleepiness.
The study has shown that chewing gum can reduce daytime tiredness and sleepiness.
Tip #8. Take slow and deep breaths:
Taking slow and a deep breath is called "PRANAYAM" in yoga. It increases the oxygen intake to your brain which is necessary to keeps it awake and functioning well.
Take 10-15 slow and deep breath closing your eyes, and you will feel fresh like you just have woke up right now.
Tip #9. If nothing works: splash your face with cold water:
This is the easiest way to awake yourself. Go to the washroom and splash cold water to your face at least three times. It will make you feel fresh and you are done with sleepiness for one or two hours.
Tip #10. Go out to take a walk:
Walking in the garden or outside the room or office can give you more fresh oxygen which is like a tonic to your brain it makes you fresh and helps you feel energetic and awake.
Tip #11. Have enough light around yourself:
Having insufficient lighting can be a reason of your sleepiness. It makes your eyes tired and forces you to feel sleepy.
Make sure the room has proper white lighting.
Tip #12. Take a power nap:
If you have some time( let say after lunch), try taking a power nap of (15-20) minutes. It is like giving you a fresh start again.
Have a power nap and then go splash your face with cold water, it is like rebooting yourself.
Tip #13. Laugh:
Laughter is an interesting way to overcome sleepiness. If you can get a chance to see some of the funny memes or funny videos on youtube, it will be best for you to avoid sleepiness.
But make sure your teacher won't see it. (lol)
#Some of the obvious tips you must keep in mind:
Above tips are some of my favorites but you should also keep in mind some of the obvious things which also may be one of the reasons for your sleepiness.
- Do not wake till late at night: Ideally, you should sleep 6 to 8 hours in 24 hours like 10pm to 4-5 am. Neither sleep more nor less.
- Have a complete and sound sleep: Sleeping alone is not enough, it should be sound and complete like food and air you take.
- Exercise/Yoga keeps you energetic: Exercising only half an hour in the morning and evening can make you feel more energetic and fresh throughout your all day. You can also try some of the Yoga related to breathing.
- Take shower if possible before class: Taking a shower with a little bit warmer water is very helpful to keep you fresh.
- Eating a good breakfast: Food and diets have no alternative. You must have proper and complete breakfast. According to the study, if you eat ice cream in your breakfast, it can really help you to feel fresh and awake in the daytime.
That is all about " how to prevent sleepiness during boring classes or at the workplace.
If you have any idea related to that, you can mention it into the comment box. And please do not forget to tell us how you like the post.
